Job Description – Data Scientist, University Graduate, 2024

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Operations Research, Physics, Economics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Relevant internship or work experience involving data analysis.
  • Proficiency in quantitative methodologies, including statistics and causal inference methods.
  • Familiarity with statistical software such as R, Python, S-Plus, SAS, or similar platforms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis techniques, including linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling methods.
  • Experience in machine learning with large datasets.
  • Ability to derive actionable insights from data and make recommendations.
  • Capacity to both teach and learn new techniques, including differential privacy.
  • Aptitude for selecting appropriate statistical tools for specific data analysis tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on the analysis of large, complex datasets and solve challenging, non-routine problems using advanced problem-solving techniques.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses, including data collection, requirements specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables, and presentations.
  • Present business recommendations, such as cost-benefit analyses and forecasting, effectively to stakeholders at various levels using visual displays of quantitative information.
  • Engage in research and development to enhance the analysis, forecasting, and optimization methods aimed at improving the quality of Google’s user-facing products, such as ads quality, search quality, end-user behavioral modeling, and live experiments.
  • Contribute to the development of new data-driven and privacy-preserving advertising and marketing products in collaboration with engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
  • Explore innovative approaches that combine large-scale experimentation, statistical-econometric methods, machine learning, and social science to address business questions on a broad scale.
